Since its introduction in 2005, Satori has become one of our most famous signature strains and a long-standing favourite among Sativa connoisseurs.

For the feminized edition, we returned to the original parent genetics rather than reinventing a classic. The result retains the qualities that made Satori so popular: remarkable vigour, easy cultivation, compact and heavy buds, and that inspirational, long-lasting psychoactive high.

Growing Satori feminized can be quite an experience. The speed of root development, incredibly sized stems and trademark leaves often surprise growers seeing the plants for the first time.

Despite her Sativa heritage, Satori develops a stout growth pattern and dense, heavy flowers that seem almost at odds with what you would expect from a cerebral Sativa. This combination of exceptional growth and flowering performance is why we originally created the term “high-performance strain” to describe Satori.

The feminized edition has two main phenotypes. One is the familiar Sativa-leaning type known from our regular Satori seeds. The other has dark green foliage and broader, thicker bud leaves that give the plant a more Indica-like appearance. At the internodes, tightly packed clusters of calyxes form distinctive triangular shapes, often crowned by a pair of ivory-white pistils. We call this beautiful expression the “pagoda” pheno.

The pagoda is more than an interesting plant to look at. Resin sparkles throughout the flowering buds and leaves, and this phenotype can deliver the strongest psychoactive effect as well as exceptional material for hash extraction.

The heavy flowers are easy to manicure, while the resinous leaves can be turned into finest-grade hash comparable in quality to the famous Nepalese temple balls.

For such a powerful Sativa, Satori is remarkably uncomplicated to grow. The plants are highly efficient at absorbing nutrients and require comparatively low EC levels and moderate fertilizing to build their huge leaves, stems and buds. With quality soil and sufficient container space, it is even possible to cultivate Satori with little or no additional fertilizer. This has always been an important part of our breeding philosophy: achieving outstanding results in soil without turning cultivation into a complicated feeding program.

Satori does appreciate rich soil to keep pace with her rapid growth. We recommend adding around 10–15% worm manure and choosing a quality horticultural soil with a good nutrient content. With standard containers, plants can begin in approximately 4–5 liters and be repotted into 8 liters or more for flowering once the root ball has filled the smaller pot. The fresh soil provides both additional root space and a new supply of nutrients at exactly the time the plants need them. Air-Pots can be used in smaller sizes because of their effect on root development, although the increased growth may require a mild nutrient top-up.

Around four weeks of vegetative growth from seed is usually sufficient indoors under HPS lighting, while hydroponic cultivation can reduce this to about three weeks. Satori's slim growth allows plants to sit comfortably in narrow rows or SOG despite those enormous leaves. We do not recommend defoliating Mandala strains. If you give the plant the space and conditions it needs, those leaves are there to do their job.

Satori is also remarkably tough. She has shown impressive resilience against pests, a good measure of mold resistance and exceptional tolerance of heat. Mature plants can withstand temperatures up to 45°C, a valuable characteristic in small indoor gardens, hot climate zones and increasingly warm and dry summers.

Good light is one area where we don't recommend cutting corners. Young plants can be started under lower light such as 250W HPS, but switching to stronger illumination after two to three weeks supports the vigorous growth Satori is capable of. During flowering, 400–600W HPS/m² or a high-quality professional LED gives the plants what they need to produce their characteristic heavy colas. Cheap or underpowered LEDs may keep the plants alive, but they won't show you what Satori can really do.

The aroma is mainly sweet and fruity with a spicy character, and the resin-rich flowers are a treat for the senses. But aroma and yield alone don't explain why Satori has remained so sought after for more than two decades. The real fascination begins with the high.

Give the seed embryo the best chance to emerge from its shell. If you grow organically, investing in quality seedling soil is one of the simplest ways to get your plants off to a healthy start. We have seen many germination problems caused by peat pellets and Jiffy tabs, where the acidic pH can interfere with germination. Coco coir bricks and other compressed growing blocks can also result in poor germination rates.

There is no need to soak our seeds or use other pre-germination methods. We recommend planting them directly into seedling soil. We cannot accept responsibility for germination results when seeds are soaked in water or germinated in paper tissues.

WARNING: Do NOT lower the pH of your water with acids such as “pH-Down” products containing nitric or phosphoric acid. These can be fatal to young seedlings when growing in soil. We have used inexpensive vinegar to lower the pH of our water for 35 years. It is non-toxic and harmless to the plants when used correctly.
