Sativa Goes North
If you love Sativa's but have a shorter or unpredictable season, then Mandala #1 was made for you.
Hardy landrace genetics from South Africa and India were crossed with a resinous hybrid to combine an early outdoor harvest with the uplifting qualities we wanted to preserve in a Sativa-dominant strain.
For 20 years, growers in the northern hemisphere have put Mandala #1 through cold nights and stormy weather, building its reputation as one of the most reliable outdoor strains. Truly a #1 strain to grow and cherish.
Beauty & Yield
Mandala #1 has the elegant structure of a Sativa with a large head bud and substantial yield.
At their best, the flowers become coated in a thick layer of trichomes that glisten brightly in the sun. Usually, half the plants have beautiful magenta colored calyxes.
Plants can easily be grown indoor, even under low light conditions.
A high calyx-to-leaf ratio also makes harvest time refreshingly simple.

Legendary Toughness
There’s a reason Mandala #1 became a favourite in difficult northern climates.
Cold and pest resistance are exceptional, while its landrace heritage allows the plants to thrive in organic soil with little feeding and low maintenance.
The plants bring an abundant crop home from September into early October. Even when bad weather forces you to harvest before full maturity, there is still a satisfying amount of resin-coated bud waiting for you.
Low odor adds another advantage for balconies, close neighbours and guerrilla gardens.

Mandala #1 is one of our most sought-after outdoor strains for northern regions and early harvests. This Sativa-dominant hybrid combines hardy landrace genetics with a very resinous hybrid, making it an excellent choice when harvesting by the end of September is a priority. For 20 years, growers and medical users have valued Mandala #1 for its reliability, superb Sativa effect and high-quality harvests.
Mandala #1 has two basic phenotypes, with most plants expressing the Sativa-dominant type and developing a natural Christmas-tree shape. Purplish leaf stems and light red stripes along the shoots are common and should not be mistaken for a nutrient deficiency. During early flowering, rubbing the stems releases a perfumed woody-herbal fragrance. The plants themselves remain relatively low odor, making Mandala #1 a good choice for close neighbours and guerrilla cultivation.
Despite the Sativa influence, flowering produces substantial buds and a long, spear-shaped head bud with excellent yield potential. Resin production is impressive even outdoors, with prime flowers developing a thick coat of trichomes. Some plants show beautiful dark purple calyxes inherited from the New Zealand Purple Indica in the paternal line. A high calyx-to-leaf ratio makes harvesting and trimming refreshingly simple.
Mandala #1 is remarkably easy to cultivate. Its landrace heritage provides excellent nutrient efficiency, allowing plants to thrive in quality potting soil with little additional feeding. Indoors, height remains manageable and the plants respond well to SCROG and other training methods. They can also be started indoors and moved outside for flowering.
Outdoors, the legendary cold and pest resistance of Mandala #1 really comes into its own. Growers in Canada, USA, Eastern Europe and the alpine region have reported excellent survival and quality harvests under challenging conditions. Early flowering brings the crop home from September into early October. Even when harsh weather forces an early harvest, the plants can still deliver a satisfying amount of resin-coated bud.
The finished buds usually combine apple and raspberry aromas with a fresh minty note. The high is uplifting, happy and expansive, making Mandala #1 a favourite for creativity, intuition, daydreaming and inner journeying. It can impress even experienced smokers, and many growers tell us their stash quickly gets shared among friends and family because everyone keeps coming back for more.

Our organic cannabis seeds are fresh, fully ripened and handcrafted. Each batch is pre-tested for 100% germination and can be easily germinated directly in quality seedling soil.
In Europe, Compo Sana Seedling Mix is an excellent choice. Popular options in North America include Burpee Seed Starting Mix, Pro-Mix Organic Seed Starting Mix and Fox Farm Light Warrior Seed Starter.
Give the seed embryo the best chance to emerge from its shell. If you grow organically, investing in quality seedling soil is one of the simplest ways to get your plants off to a healthy start. We have seen many germination problems caused by peat pellets and Jiffy tabs, where the acidic pH can interfere with germination. Coco coir bricks and other compressed growing blocks can also result in poor germination rates.
There is no need to soak our seeds or use other pre-germination methods. We recommend planting them directly into seedling soil. We cannot accept responsibility for germination results when seeds are soaked in water or germinated in paper tissues.
WARNING: Do NOT lower the pH of your water with acids such as “pH-Down” products containing nitric or phosphoric acid. These can be fatal to young seedlings when growing in soil. We have used inexpensive vinegar to lower the pH of our water for 35 years. It is non-toxic and harmless to the plants when used correctly.
For soil cultivation, the correct water pH is 6.2–6.5. Please consult our Water & pH Guide for more information.
